How to Become a Nominated Carer

Supporting someone you love can be an important part of their wellbeing. If a service user would like a whānau member or trusted support person to help with their care, here's how to become their Nominated Carer.

CONNECTION + COMPASSION

A Nominated Carer is a whānau member or trusted support person a service user chooses to help with their care. They don't need to live in the same home. If they do, and they're involved in day-to-day support, they're known as a Family Carer, but the pathway to getting started is the same either way.

Want to nominate someone as your carer?

This is for you if you're a service user or Next of Kin

If you'd like a whānau member or trusted support person to help with your care, you can nominate them. To begin, we'll need the contact details of the person you wish to nominate:

  • Phone number
  • Email address

These details must come directly from the service user or their Next of Kin. Our experienced team is here to help, please reach out if you would like guidance or have any questions.

What happens after you nominate them

Once we receive their contact details, our team connects directly with the person you've nominated and guides them through onboarding. From there, they'll be added to your roster for the hours approved for your care.

Who can be a Nominated Carer?

Nominated Carer

Any person the service user chooses to support them. They can be a whānau member or a trusted support person, and they don't need to live in the same home.

All nominated and family carers must complete standard compliance and background checks as part of onboarding.

Living in the same home?

If you're a whānau member living with the service user and involved in their daily support, you're a Family Carer. The steps below to get started are the same either way.

Your pathway to becoming a Nominated Carer

The carer learns what to expect for allocated hours and support tasks approved for the service user.

5

Added to the roster

Once onboarding is complete, the carer is added to the roster for the approved hours.
